"I've recently started expanding my interest in other areas of history beyond my own specialties. A trip to England last year made me realize how little I know about English history. I looked around for a book that would get me started and this one was recommended. The images and photographs in this are top notch. Everything about them are engaging and sucked me right in when I started reading it. My only critique is one I often have of histories of this nature: the earlier time periods are quickly passed over and more recent eras get lots of attention. I'm an ancient and medieval historian; so it's the older stuff that attracts more of my interest. However, this book still contains information I didn't know before. It's not geared toward specialists but toward people more like myself: educated newbies to the history of England. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it."

- AMAZING! Pictures speak for themselves. I love history, specially Britain's. This book motivates you to do more and more reaserch and hit the research books and documentaries. I bought 2 USED HARD COPIES! There's something meaninful about recyclin and giving new life to an old book ) It has timelines throughout the book, which is so important for me to learn and put in perspective of time frames. It's amazing how a book can make you so exited and eager to learn.
- Like all DK books this is a great resource if you want to pique your interest in a subject prior to doing more in-depth reading elsewhere. The illustrations and snippets of info are awesome however and this is a nice piece to grab and read randomly for half an hour. Don't expect that you will be able to use to write any papers though!
- Like with all DK books, this book is absolutely beautiful. Anyone with interest in Great Britan and it's history will love this book. Check out all the DK publishing books. The Smithsonian series, the Ultimate visual guide series, and the American museum and natural history series are all terrific. All make great additions to your library. In this digital age, I find something very endearing about books. The feel and look of these books are second to none. All would make great coffee table books. Here are some of the books I have bought in the last 12 months from DK publishing. Universe, Earth, Ocean, Animal, Human, Flight, Battle, World War 2, Plant, Weapon, War, Battle at sea, Violent Earth, Walking with Dinosaurs, Ship, Mountanieers, Science, Militay History, Prehistoric Life, Timelines of History, and Evolution. All beautiful, well made, and great reads.
- DK, what can you say?! The best there ever was. We had this on our 2.5 month stay in London and we got just a bit of everything that we needed to know in its rich history. Gorgeous book, well paced, well informed and I so wish we bought the digital version cuz it's pretty heavy!

And it's so beautiful! Really easy to look at and comprehend. No gibberish, just straight up good info.
I just wish there was more about the social and culture development of each country. - Being something of an anglophile, I found this work to be very comprehensive, complete and enjoyable. That said, I found it somewhat a strain to read because of the rather small type used. Another irritant were the descriptions of the wonderful illustrations--they were a little hard to separate from the text. But, all in all, this book was a tremendous value from .
- This large book is extremely heavy but packed with historical information. A nice addition to the other source books I have on England.
