The Tennessee Mountain Man a Modern Mail Order Bride Olivia Gaines Terri Blackwell 9781730863691 Books Reviews
- This is not one of my favorites of the Mail Order Bride series, but it's not my least favorite either. Nope, that honor goes to “On A Rainy Night in Georgiaâ€, but both stories had a similar theme with the heroine being particularly unlikeable. I really did not care for Khloe and it was difficult to sympathize with her horrific life experiences. Her brother, while admittedly a true turd-cutter, was right about her being cold-hearted/ hard-hearted/ no-hearted/ whatever, you get the point. The whole ending of the book needs to be re-worked, right from the point of the storm. I could not get any visual orientation for the events that happened afterwards and the final summation to the story was rushed and gap filled. It seems like the author was told to “Wrap it up already!†and that’s what she did. Nope, won’t be reading this one again.
- I stopped on the first page of chapter 12 after the umpteenth stumble over a missing word.
The first part of this story felt rushed. There was a lot of small words missing and I felt it was because of the author rushing the story. The story has finally slowed to enjoyable pace and guess what? The errors are still happening.
I gave this story 2 stars because it's a good storyline but it could have been a great one if only there'd been some better proofreading. I'll finish this book but I expected more from this author and I expected more for my money. I've read better edited books for .99. - Poor Nurse Practitioner Khloe Burgess was having the worst luck ever. First she was almost attacked while jogging, then her mother set her house on fire with her in it, then she was forced to take a leave of absence for something she was not guilty of. Then her boyfriend dumped her and left her stranded in New York where she was almost mugged. But that is where her luck changed when she was rescued by match maker extraordinaire Coraline Newair of Perfect Match. Khloe decided that she needed a break and a change from her life. Her mother was gone, her brother abandoned her along with her father, she'd lost all of her possessions in the fire. She had nothing else to lose. She matched perfectly with the mountain man of Tennessee Beauregard Montgomery, the owner of Montgomery Communications company. Neither one of them knew how things were going to work out but both were willing to take the chance. Each and every day, they found themselves falling more and more in love with each other and Khloe was accepted by the community and the Montgomery clan. She was loving her relationship with not only Beau but his family as well, giving her everything she ever wanted and needed in her life, a real live loving family. It was not until after the dam break did she discover the secret to her mother's disfunctional drinking and the reason why she never felt bonded to her own mother. She finally had the guts to stand up to her brother for not caring enough about their mother to dig deeper into what caused their mother to drink and why their father left.
Olivia wrote a heartbreaking story of Khloe's life but it ended up heart warming with Beau, his family and the Harbuck town being all that she needed to feel fulfilled. I think she did misjustice to herself and her mother by not having the incriminating evidence she found tested if not for herself, then for her children.
Olivia has such a way with words and always spices her her stories with humor throughout her tales. I chuckled the entire book. The epidemic of that infectious rash had me rolling. That small country town was quite active. I was kind of hoping that maybe Coraline would work her magic on poor Ennis. I felt so sorry for him. He obviously needed and wanted love. I am happy as always to read that the main characters Beau and Khloe got their HEA in the end. - Curse you Olivia Gaines for distracting me during NaNoWriMo! I spent the entire morning and afternoon reading this book when I should have been writing. But it was soo worth it.
I bonded with Khloe’s character immediately. She was the type of chick I could see as my friend. The way her job treated her was so typical. They were only looking out for their interest. I would have loved it if she at least threatened them with a lawsuit after she almost got shot during her shit by a co-worker’s insane wife.
Beau was a work of art. He was such a simple, no nonsense man who knew what he wanted and didn’t back down. When he set his eyes on Khloe, he just knew. I loved how when the moonshine got my girl spilling all of her tea, he listened and strategically asked the questions she was too guarded in her sober state to answer.
As usual, I really enjoyed the quirky supporting characters. I am still trying to wrap my head around that Ennis character. LAWD! I liked Jethro’s character a lot and would have like to have seen more of him. Maybe he will find live after that rash clears up. Lol - I liked the beginning of the story it was getting interesting however the character Khloe did not seem fully developed. I didn't understand the abrupt ending. Khloe seemed unreasonable and sort of like she needed to see another Psychologist. Also, I wanted more information regarding her Mother I mean like who did this? Her attitude towards her brother was not fair. She and Beau needed more time I didn't get the connection. More, please.
- I loved reading the Neary Brother's stories. This one not so much. This story started out well but was too exaggerated after the flight to New York. It went down hill from there. Too many stereotypes, the laughing scene made no sense and what's with the big rash breakout. And based on the strength of these characters he never would have left her in the cabin with potential danger coming. And how she found out what was in the lock box. That was not very well thought out and it made no sense for the brother in law to open the box. Like I said after New York, the book was rushed and just ridiculous. The ending frustrated me because it had no flow.
